Department of English offers a rigorous and intensive 4-Year degree programme in English Language and Literature. The programme aims at developing learners’ ability to critically read and analyze linguistics and literary texts in their historical, socio-political, cultural and philosophical contexts combined with aesthetic pleasure and intellectual stimulation. Emphasis is on the breadth and depth of coverage in the selection of courses in order to develop an understanding of different genres and forms of literary expression (poetry, prose, novel, drama, non- fiction) as well as linguistic and rhetorical skills through frequent reading and writing assignments and class discussions.

The course explores the deeper potential of that most eclectic and interdisciplinary of subjects—English—and extends your reading and research into exciting new areas. You will master skills of research, analysis, argument and writing that are both a vital preparation for doctoral research and highly valued by employers. The MA English Literature is designed to help you think critically about the role of literature in history and explore some of the new directions scholars in English are taking.

Istinye University English Language and Literature Program started to accept students in 2018. The program has a unique structure by integrating courses related to English Language Teaching and Translation and Interpreting as well as the second foreign language into the program. The Bachelor of Arts program in English Language and Literature is designed to give students a basic understanding of literature as well as expertise in their fields. The program includes courses covering the main types and periods of English literature; text analysis and criticism constitute an important part of the undergraduate program.
