IAU aims to develop students' knowledge of English Language and Literature and American Literature with a contemporary, critical and theoretical approach, To provide students with an interdisciplinary perspective, and to strengthen their critical reading, writing and thinking skills acquired within the field, To provide students with the knowledge of different areas of the social sciences and to educate well-equipped and ethical individuals that can be useful to the society.

The department of English Language and Literature provides advanced education in English Language and Literature by presenting students with contemporary methods, comparative approaches and universal perspectives in linguistics and literary studies. Our Master’s Degree program at the Social Sciences Institute at Istanbul Aydın University aims at encouraging students in acquiring critical thinking, persuasive communicative skills and a sophisticated perspective on English language and literature. The department accepts students with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature or other (un)related fields as long as they demonstrate English proficiency. Ones who do not qualify need to take no-credits preparatory courses at the bachelor’s degree level for at least one semester that will not count towards their Master’s degree. A total of at least 24 local credits and at least 8 courses and a seminar constitute the course work of 60 ECTS required for a master's degree program with thesis . A thesis of 60 ECTS credits is required for the completion of this 120 ECTS program.

English Language and Literature students develop skills in text analysis and analytical thinking. They are educated to become experts capable of analysing the connections between literature and culture, and to be aware of the close relationship between the anthropological disciplines.

Yaşar University, Graduate School of Social Sciences offers an interdisciplinary M.A. program in English Language and Literature. The program, enriched by electives, offers areas of study not only for the majors of English Language and Literature but also for the graduates of other branches of social sciences such as “film studies,” “media and public relations,” “international relations”. This M.A. Program is primarily designed for those who wish to pursue a career in teaching and research.

The English Language and Literature is an innovative threefold degree programme which is comprised of English language teaching methodology, English literature and linguistics modules. The students will study the linguistic systems underlying language, exploring in detail how the language is structured, acquired, used and taught. In addition, the relationship between text, language, reader and author, society, economy, politics, culture and the individual will be explored.
